Brand, website and exhibition design for museums and libraries.

Museum Island, the homepage island for museums & libraries

We stay on after launch so your staff can run what we design. For cultural institutions we have made the identity and graphics for the permanent exhibition at DC’s MLK Memorial Library, and the National Women’s History Museum’s social media while it had no building.

What buyers ask for02

What institutions ask for.

This fall we read ten public RFPs from museums, libraries and arts organizations looking for a rebrand or a new website. These requests came up again and again.

  1. A site your staff can run

Your team edits pages, sends the newsletter and makes the next poster without calling us. We record the training for whoever joins after launch. If your staff already know WordPress, we build in WordPress.

  2. Everything registered to you

The domain and hosting accounts are registered to you as each one is set up. Source files, fonts and code are handed over as the work is approved.

  3. The same people after launch

With a monthly partnership, Abe Garcia and Tj Cichecki stay on the brand after launch, so no one new needs a briefing each time.

  4. Accessible from the start

We build sites to WCAG 2.1 AA. At the MLK Library, exhibition type was set on a four-step scale from the section marker read across the room to the caption read up close.

  5. A brand your partners can use

Guidelines live as a web page your staff, board and partners can open, with templates for the pieces you make every month.

Before we start.

Do you respond to RFPs?

Yes. We answer public RFPs and carry the standard forms. Send us the document and we will tell you whether we fit.

Can you work under a prime contractor?

Yes. At the MLK Library we were the brand and graphics partner inside a construction joint venture, alongside the exhibition designers and the fabricator.

Who does the work?

The two partners, on every project. When the job needs a specialist, such as a photographer or an accessibility auditor, we name them before you sign.

Is AI writing our brand?

Some first drafts are written with AI, from voice rules your team approved. A person on your staff approves every piece before it is published.

What does it cost?

A brand, website or exhibition has a fixed fee and schedule, agreed before work starts. Partnerships start at $5,000 a month.
