Brand Identity

#brand-identity2017 launch · refined for 2020 pitch

The word mélange drawn as a display serif: lowercase, high contrast, with a decorative join between the m and the é and an accent that never comes off, because it is the French half of the mix. It sits in white on Mélange Blue. A condensed typewriter face carries the second voice across the decks, the menus, and social.

  • system · A custom display serif, set lowercase with a decorative join between the m and the é. The accent stays on.Mélange logo

Two menus, one for each room. The Bar Lounge Menu runs snacks, burgers, and sides from $4 to $14 and is built around the burger the crowd came for, while the Dining Room Menu opens the kitchen up and organizes itself by the correct Amharic course names, Mekses for snacks, Mastagesha for appetizers, Erat for the main course, and Tafachoch for desserts, from $6 to $16. Both carry the same serif logo over condensed typewriter body copy.

Publication Design

#publication-designFebruary 2020

The February 2020 Concepts deck, fourteen pages asking for the City Vista unit. It runs from the welcome and the meaning of the name through the chef’s story, the Union Market beginning, and the following and testimonials he had by then, into the three rooms he wanted (dining room, lounge, bar and wine bar), the two menus, custom furniture by Jomo Tariku, a French and Ethiopian pattern direction over dark wood, and the room itself, the unit that used to be Ray’s the Steaks.
