The Challenge

DC restaurateurs The Popal Group made waves with their well-loved French restaurant Napoleon, but they were ready to step back into their comfort zone to pay homage to their Afghan heritage. So, they opened Lapis; a vibrant neighborhood restaurant highlighted by homestyle recipes and rich family history. They came to us looking to drive their vision home with a crisp, translatable brand.

Our Approach

We worked closely with the Popal family to build the Lapis brand through a series of intensive identity workshops. Our mission? To capture the essence of the food, and the family that cooks it. We translated that story into the physical, interpreting the space and designing decorative accents, signage, and menus to fully flesh out the brand. We also worked with them to create distinctive brand collateral and a website to match.
