We’ve been busy over here jamming on an exhibition project for the new MLK library in Downtown D.C. This means we’ve been researching protest signage from the Civil Rights Movement, and more broadly, activism in D.C. It’s been amazing to learn more about our city and its importance, not just to the Civil Rights Movement, but as a cultural center for Black America too.

Graphic design has always been a prominent element of social activism, helping to strengthen and unify protest messaging. Many of the historical images we’ve found feel as relevant to today’s protests, as they did 60 years ago. It shows that we still have a lot of work ahead of us to achieve the social justice we are in desperate need of.

The MLK library opens to the public next week, but the official exhibition opening isn’t until early next year. We can’t wait to see you there.
