to kick off 2016, we were tasked with designing a series of posters for katana, one of our ongoing clients. the posters, which now hang in the katana office, were meant to communicate four cornerstones of the katana brand ethic: empowered, team-driven, innovative, and proud.
this was an exciting project for us to take on, because though we’ve been working with them for almost two years, these posters presented an opportunity for us to take a fresh look at their brand and how it interacts with their workspace. the mission? to translate those values into large scale office posters that also brought some cohesive and eye-catching design elements to their overall workspace aesthetic.
the tesla coil, for example, presented itself as a visual counterpart to the ‘empowered’ concept. to the client, tesla represents the archetype of the work ethic they hope to emulate. the trajectory of tesla’s success involved a lot of trial and error, but by the end of his life, the legacy of his work was measured by the sheer scale of his accomplishments, rather than the recognition he received for them. the scope of his innovation in electricity is just as relevant today as it was then. the classic graphic of the tesla coil presented an excellent visual for driving this idea home– as well as a fun conversation piece!
